NYFTTA Director's Meeting Sept. 10, 2002
Sport Fishing Education Center and Aquaculture Facility, Cedar Beach, NY

7:45 PM meeting came to order.
NYFTTA Summer roll call of Officers and Directors has been entered into the Minutes. The Minutes of June 11, 2002 were read and accepted.
Treasurer's Report was read and handed out by John Brando.
It was requested by John Mantione that the Treasurer send out second notices of dues that are delinquent.
It was stated by John Mantione that the Holiday Spirit will be held at the Sport Fishing Education Center.

Proposal #1: Passed

It was further noted that Chuck Hollins was instrumental in us getting the loan from LIBBA.
Proposal #4: Passed
Transfers: $ 500.00 from Fisheries Management to Jack Ferrera for traveling to meeting. Passed.
$ 631.88 Funding the Ducks Game. Passed
Money for a plaque award to Commissioner Peter Scully. Passed
Lawsuit: The Lead Ban: The Lawyer states that we do not have a fair chance of winning our case.
It would cost $5,000. To $10,000. To try to fight this case.
Questions: Do we continue with this to make a point? Do we bow out?
Up for a vote:
#1: We will continue with litigation on this issue that it did not ban use.
#2: We will continue with litigation on this issue on principle.
#3: We will dismiss litigation.
Motion to Dismiss Litigation by Melissa. Seconded by John Brando. Discussion followed.
Motion to Dismiss Litigation: Passed.  Melissa suggested a new Proposal:
Pursue legislation highlighting the shortcomings of the Lead Ban Bill with Marcellino and Englebright. Passed
On 09/18/02 there are Fisheries Meetings. It appears that we will be over on fluke, we will get a major increase next year on scup and a massive reduction on blackfish.
On 09/13/02 Jack will attend the meeting at FRC regarding Striped Bass. Our vote is for status quo at this time which is 1 striper minimum 28" and 1 striper trophy. This has been in place by NYFTTA for many years now.
Question: Does it benefit this industry by opening EEZ?
10/15/02 there is a public weakfish meeting at DEC. Jack Ferrera will attend.
Regarding the Marine License Plate: The Marine Account is open to transfers and donations.
Charlie Witek has been appointed Council at Large Rep. For the Mid Atlantic Fishing Alliance.
Suffolk County has asked NYFTTA to appoint someone to be our Representative of the Park System. Jeff Vaughan was approved.
On Sunday Oct. 20th NYFTTA will award Senator Owen Johnson with a plaque at Captree.
Due to the fact that the Bay Shore Aquarium has been shelved the Sport Fishing
Education Center may be able to get some monies that were originally earmarked for the aquarium.
