"About Us"
Dear Trade Associates,
NYFTTA has not been idle during it's relatively
short span of existence. One of our members, Melissa Dearborn, NYFTTA's Former Vice
President (631) 385-8284, now sits on the New York Marine Resources Advisory
Council. We have been represented by Melissa on various advisory councils to the
Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Council and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council
regarding our local fish species. We have made appearances and expressed our
concerns at public hearings held by the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation. We have also voiced our concerns regarding the possible closure of the
Snapper Bluefish fishery and the current summer flounder (Fluke) regulations, essential
parts of our industry.
This is not a "pat ourselves on the
back" organization; we must continue to protect the interests of the New York
Fishing Tackle Trade -- our very survival depends on it. I'm sure your business is
and will continue to be directly impacted by any newly implemented fisheries
legislation. Having a voice and "exercising our collective vocal
cords" is crucial and long overdue.
We are young enough to allow every member to
express an opinion and take a direct part in setting future goals and agendas. We
are strong enough to send a clear message to everyone that there are viable businesses
existing in the recreational fishing trade that contribute greatly to the economy of New
York State and that we intend to take an active role in shaping the decisions that affect
us.
By aligning your business or association with
NYFTTA we can demonstrate to fisheries managers the diversity of businesses and
recreational organizations geared toward the recreational sportfisherman that depend on
healthy fisheries. Together we will make a profound economic impact.
